150 House Democrats voted against legislation that would make sure illegal alien drunk drivers are deported following their convictions.

The overwhelming majority of House Democrats voted against legislation this week that would make sure illegal alien drunk drivers are deported from the United States following their convictions.

On Wednesday, 150 House Democrats voted against the “Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act” by Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL) which would make drunk driving grounds for ineligibility to be in the U.S.

In practice, the law would ensure that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents can swiftly take illegal aliens convicted of drunk driving into their custody so they can be deported.

Just 59 House Democrats broke ranks with their party leadership, joining 215 House Republicans to ultimately pass the bill.

“There was a newlywed couple from my hometown of Enterprise, Alabama, named Angel and Jeremy Seay. I knew them personally,” Moore said on the House floor. “Angel and Jeremy were riding their motorcycle together when an illegal immigrant under the influence of alcohol collided into them with his pickup. Their lives were cut dramatically short.”

“Sadly, tragedies like this are not uncommon across our country,” Moore said.

In another vote this week, 155 House Democrats voted against legislation from Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) that would ensure ICE agents can promptly deport illegal aliens convicted of Social Security fraud against American citizens.

Only 55 House Democrats joined 217 House Republicans to pass the bill.

Social Security fraud, where American citizens have their Social Security numbers and thus identities stolen by illegal aliens, is extremely common.

In 2018, an Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) investigation revealed potentially 39 million cases in the prior four years where Americans had their identities stolen by illegal aliens.

“It is hard to visualize the consequences of bad lawmakers until you see the victims,” Musk said

On Thursday, Elon Musk came out in favor of deporting illegal immigrants who get convicted of drunk driving while in the United States.

His comments came following the passing of a bill by the House that would make driving under the influence a deportable offense, legislation that 150 Democrats voted against.

“It is hard to visualize the consequences of bad lawmakers until you see the victims,” Musk said in a post on X citing the story of an illegal immigrant, Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas, who had been served four deportation orders and hit with two DUIs before killing a family while once again driving drunk.

“This could have been your family,” he added. “It was someone’s family.”

HR 6976, also called the Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act, was introduced by Rep. Barry Moore on January 11, and makes it a deportable offense for an illegal immigrant to be convicted of or admitted to driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

“Every 45 minutes — that is how often someone in the United States dies in a crash with an alcohol-impaired driver,” Moore said in a Judiciary Committee hearing on the bill. “In 2021 alone, there were 13,384 impaired driving fatalities and 400,000 injuries. Those crashes don’t discriminate. It could me, it could be you, could be one of our family members.”

On December 12, 2023, Menjivar-Alas was behind the wheel of a Toyota Tundra when he crashed into a Mazda CX-5 that was driven by 47-year-old Melissa Powell. She, and her 16-year-old son Riordan who was in the back seat, were both killed as a result of the accident.

The El Salvadoran was also injured during the crash, and transported to a nearby hospital. Three days later, however, he was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide from reckless driving, vehicular homicide caused by DUI, and habitual traffic offender.
