• Vice President Kamala Harris condemned the sentencing of WNBA star Brittney Griner to nine years in prison on smuggling charges on Thursday
• Some on Twitter were quick to point out that as District Attorney, she prosecuted thousands of marijuana possession cases at a rate higher than her predecessor 
• Griner, 31, had claimed in Russian court that it was a mistake she brought a marijuana pen into the country  
• She added that she did not want to be used as a political pawn in the tension between Russia and US
• The White House has been unable to negotiate a prisoner swap to bring Griner, a WNBA star, home
• There is ongoing speculation she will be swapped for arms dealer Viktor Bout, the ‘merchant of death’
