A National Guardsman shot a migrant while responding to a stabbing involving illegal border-crossers in the El Paso area Sunday, as violence in the region continues to escalate.

US soldiers who have been deployed to the area to try to contain the constant flood of illegal crossings from Mexico to the States were notified of one migrant stabbing another at the edge of the Rio Grande River near Texas’ razor-wire fencing in the afternoon, according to an internal US Border Patrol memo.

One of the responding guardsmen ended up shooting a migrant at the scene. The shot man fled back to Mexico.

The area where the incident happened is near Gate 36, a hot spot for illegal crossings and where hundreds of migrants stormed the razor wire and assaulted National Guard soldiers just a few weeks ago.

Two migrants were treated for non-life-threatening injuries after Sunday’s incident and reportedly headed into the custody of Border Patrol, while the area was subsequently secured by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.

Migrants in the area have become more brazen, a National Guard source told The Post after the riot at Gate 35 a few weeks ago.

Texas has since charged 214 migrants with rioting and nine others tagged as ringleaders with felonies over the incident.

At least one migrant had allegedly stomped on one responding soldier’s knees. US law enforcement also confiscated knives and shanks from members of the mob.

“These people were willing to assault military,” the source told The Post at the time. “They were willing to assault law enforcement. They have complete disregard for our laws.”

Illegal immigrant stabs two others, flees back into Mexico after being shot at by National Guardsman

An illegal immigrant was shot by a National Guardsman after stabbing two individuals on Sunday in El Paso, Texas. Those stabbed had non-life-threatening injuries.

The memo detailing the incident stated, “On April 14, 2024, at approximately 13:10 hours, [Border Patrol] was notified by Army Personnel that a migrant was seen stabbing another migrant south of the C-wire, by the river’s edge.”

The illegal immigrant was then shot by a National Guardsman who was from Indiana and the foreign national “fled back south to Mexico.”

“According to Army Personnel and DPS Trooper a National Guardsman shot a subject, who subsequently went back south to Mexico. TX Department of Public Safety Trooper (TX DPS) was contacted, and EMS was contacted. As per agents, two subjects (suspected UNCs) sustained non-life threating injuries,” the memo added.

A statement from the National Guard of Indiana in response to the shooting said, “The Indiana National Guard is aware of the incident that happened Sunday, April 14. We support and care for our soldiers and airmen who are supporting Operation Lone Star.”

The incident is part of a pattern of increased violence at the border as security has remained lax under the Biden administration. In March a group of illegal immigrants started a riot at the border, assaulting Border Patrol officers and tearing down a barrier in the process.

Criminal activity from illegal immigrants who have crossed the border as well as border security in general has ramped up as a top issue of concern for Americans over the last several years and recent polls have shown that citizens believe that former President Donald Trump did a better job at handling the border than Biden.
