Democratic nominee Kamala Harris officially announced on Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to be her running mate in the 2024 presidential election.
CNN first reported the selection on Tuesday. It comes as Harris seeks to solidify her position against former President Donald Trump, who has already named Senator JD Vance (R-OH) as his running mate, and the Democratic National Convention’s confirmation of her as nominee. The Hill then confirmed CNN’s initial reports.
Half an hour later Harris made the official announcement online, praising Walz for his having “delivered for working families.”
Harris and her newly chosen running mate are set to embark Tuesday on a campaign tour across key states essential for a Democratic victory in November like Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada.
The official announcement and subsequent rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday are expected to set the tone for the remainder of the campaign as the Democratic ticket gears up to challenge the Republican Party in what promises to be a fierce electoral battle.
Among the leading contenders for Harris’ running mate were several prominent figures, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.

Vice President Kamala Harris selected Waltz as her running mate on Tuesday, allying herself with the most far-left choice among those on her short list, as Breitbart News reported.
Below are seven things to know about Waltz’s record:
A June report from Minnesota’s legislative auditor found that Walz’s administration “failed miserably in its duty to properly oversee millions of federal dollars it administered to nonprofits to feed children.” The report said that Walz’s alleged incompetence “created opportunities for fraud.” Axios reported: “The report highlighted several ways in which the Walz administration failed to rein in the fraud, undercutting the governor’s longstanding claims that his agency staff deserve credit, not criticism, for their efforts to catch and stop it.”
Walz signed legislation to allow minors to get sex-change operations in Minnesota. He signed a bill to require schools to stock period products in boys’ bathrooms.
Walz allegedly failed to anticipate and react to riots in Minneapolis after the death of George Floyd. Even the liberal mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, slammed Walz’s response to the riots.
Under Walz’s leadership, Minnesota gives free college tuition to illegal immigrants.
Walz signed a bill into law that will give driver’s licenses to potentially 77,000 eligible illegal aliens.
Walz openly championed socialism last week during a “White Dudes” for Harris event.
Waltz was also a radical member of the House of Representatives, with Heritage Action giving him a lifetime score of 13 percent.

Veterans have accused Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz of “embellishing” his military career and abandoning his National Guard battalion, highlighting that the now-vice presidential pick for the Democrats never served in combat and retired from service ahead of his unit’s 2005 deployment to Iraq.
In a letter posted to Facebook in 2018 as he first ran for governor, retired Command Sergeants Major Thomas Behrends and Paul Herr said Walz retired from his 24-year tenure in the National Guard after learning that his battalion would be deployed to Iraq, despite allegedly assuring his fellow troops he would join them.
“On May 16th, 2005, [Walz] quit, betraying his country, leaving the 1-125th Field Artillery Battalion and its Soldiers hanging; without its senior Non-Commissioned Officer, as the battalion prepared for war,” Behrends and Herr wrote.
Walz, 60, wrapped his military career just in time for him to launch his political career the following year, successfully running for Congress in 2006.
Behrends and Herr criticized him for leaving the National Guard for Congress despite being fully aware that he could have requested permission from the Pentagon to seek office while on active duty.
Walz further dodged the necessary paperwork to ensure a smooth transition out of military service and “instead … slithered out the door,” the pair added, with his retirement filing showing “soldier not available for signature.”
The National Guard members also accused the now-two-term Minnesota governor of having “embellished and selectively omitted facts of his military career for years.”

Still, Walz has said he has “an honorable record.”
“We all do what we can. I’m proud I did 24 years,” Walz said about his service.
Walz joined the National Guard after high school and had served in the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery before his retirement, where he obtained the rank of command sergeant major.
During his subsequent tenure in Congress, Walz came out in opposition against then-President George W. Bush’s plans to increase troop levels in Iraq.
