President Biden’s permission for Ukraine to use American-made missiles for strikes on Russia has triggered a global conflict, a close ally of Vladimir Putin has claimed.
On Sunday, Biden fulfilled a longstanding Ukrainian request by authorizing the country’s use of U.S.-supplied Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) for long-range strikes inside Russian territory, officials confirmed to Reuters, AP and several other news agencies.
Ukraine has launched an ATACMS strike, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry, prompting Moscowto warn of a stark escalation in the conflict.
“The use of alliance missiles in this way can now be qualified as an attack by the bloc’s countries on Russia,” Dmitry Medvedev posted to Telegram on Tuesday.
“In this case, the right arises to launch a retaliatory strike with weapons of mass destruction against Kyiv and the main NATO facilities, wherever they are. And this is already WWIII.”
Medevdev, who currently serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, also claimed that the decision taken by Biden was a “deliberate” effort to create “such an escalation of the conflict that Trump’s team will have to deal with.”
Newsweek has contacted the Biden White House for a response to Medvedev’s statement.
Medvedev, who has held the position of both president and prime minister of the country, said that the “unconfirmed decision” by Biden would “not be able to make a significant contribution to the enemy’s military actions.”
However, he said that the strikes would nevertheless have an escalatory impact, thanks to Russia’s recent decision to alter its guidelines on the use of nuclear weapons.
On Tuesday, Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that Putin had ratified an alteration in Russia’s nuclear policy, first announced by the leader in late September. These broader criteria would classify any large scale attack on Russian territory as meriting a nuclear response, while aggression from any state with the assistance of another would be treated as a joint attack on the Russian Federation.

On Thursday President Vladimir Putin issued a stern warning in the wake of Ukraine launching long-range strikes on Russia’s territory utilizing newly approved US and UK long-range missiles.
“Kiev has launched a long-range missile strike against military facilities located within internationally-recognized Russian territory,” began his televised address by saying. He confirmed British-made Storm Shadow missiles and US-made HIMARS were fired targets located in Bryansk and Kursk Regions.
He said this action threatens to turn the Ukraine conflict into a global war. “A regional Ukraine conflict instigated by the West has acquired elements of a global one,” Putin spelled out, and noted that these systems cannot be used without the direct operational involvement of Western military specialists.
But he went on to claim that the inbound Western rockets were intercepted by Russian defenses. “The goals that have apparently been set by the enemy have not been achieved.” He suggested injuries among some personnel at a command center in Kursk, but noted it continues full operations. He also asserted that no Western systems can counter Russia’s new missiles, on display earlier in the day.
“The use of such weapons by the enemy cannot affect the course of the situation in the Special Military Operation zone,” Putin stressed. He also said it was a big mistake for the US to pull out of the the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty in 2019.
Can things cool prior to Trump taking office, or will Zelensky and the West risk bigger confrontation, to likely trigger Russian hypersonic missiles or even a tactical nuke? This is indeed an ultra-dangerous slide.

Top pollster Nate Silver demands Biden, 82, resign because he isn’t ‘competent’ enough to make decisions
Pollster Nate Silver questioned President Joe Biden‘s competency and called on him to resign for the rest of his term, citing his avoidance of reporters and the escalating war in Ukraine.
Silver, 46, a leading pollster who spent much of the fall defending the computer model that repeatedly gave Donald Trump an edge in the election, weighed in on X about the high stakes given the tense state of foreign affairs.
‘Is there any particular reason to assume Biden is competent to be president right now? It’s a very difficult job,’ he wrote.
‘It’s a dangerous world. Extremely high-stakes decisions in Ukraine. He should resign and let Harris serve out the last 2 months,’ Silver added on the day Biden turned 82.
Any such move would give Harris – who suffered a blowout on Election Day even after spending $1 billion in about four months of campaigning – complete control of the office: from pardon power to being commander-in-chief of the U.S. military.
Silver linked his post to a grab from a Washington Post article that cataloged just some of the times Biden avoided the press on his recently concluded trip to Peru and Rio de Janeiro for a pair of global conferences – in a series of snubs that coincided with tense developments overseas.
It noted how locals shook maracas as Biden concluded his remarks at the Museum of the Amazon, which overpowered shouted reporter questions following his remarks on the environment.
That was just one odd moment in the photo-op that drew TV and online commentary for making it appear as if the now-82-year old president had wandered off into the forest.
