Elon Musk’s team within the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been reviewing payment and contracting systems at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) this week in an effort to identify fraud and waste.
According to the Wall Street Journal, representatives from DOGE have been present at CMS offices to examine the agency’s spending. It is also reviewing the agency’s staffing structure, as many veteran staffers have worked at the agency for decades. The move is part of a broader initiative to assess inefficiencies across federal agencies, with Musk’s team recently revealed also to be investigating the Treasury Department and the US Agency for International Development. DOGE’s mission is to reduce excessive government spending and eliminate ineffective programs.
CMS, which oversees Medicare and Medicaid, employs approximately 6,710 people. Among the systems under review is the CMS Acquisition Lifecycle Management system, which contains information on federal contracts. However, DOGE representatives have not been granted access to databases containing the personal health information of Medicare and Medicaid enrollees. Their access remains “read-only,” meaning they cannot make any changes to the systems.

Trump’s appointment to oversee CMS, Dr. Mehmet Oz, has yet to be confirmed by the Senate. However, several officials at CMS who are expected to work under Oz have already begun overseeing the agency.

Representatives of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) – who just obtained security clearances, have been embedded at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) this week, gaining access to critical payment and contracting systems, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing multiple individuals familiar with the situation.
The DOGE representatives have been on site at the agency’s offices this week, the people said, and they are looking at the systems’ technology as well as the spending that flows through them, with a focus on pinpointing what they consider fraud or waste. DOGE representatives are also examining the agency’s organizational design and how it is staffed, the people added.
Musk confirmed his interest in CMS oversight in a social media post, writing on X: “Yeah, this is where the big money fraud is happening.“
The White House and DOGE officials declined to comment on the matter. In the last week, Musk’s DOGE team has been moving swiftly to gain access across multiple federal agencies, including the Treasury Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to uncover fraud, abuse, and excessive spending.
A CMS official told the Journal that the agency has assigned “two senior agency veterans who are leading the coordination with DOGE,” and that leaders are “taking a thoughtful approach to see where there may be opportunities for more effective and efficient spending in line with meeting the goals of President Trump.”
CMS sits at the heart of the nation’s healthcare economy, managing a budget of approximately $1.5 trillion in fiscal 2024 – roughly 22 percent of total federal spending. The agency employs around 6,710 people and administers Medicare, Medicaid, and other healthcare programs vital to millions of Americans. Many of its employees have spent decades navigating the complex regulatory and operational framework underpinning the healthcare system.
Among the systems DOGE representatives have accessed is CALM, the CMS Acquisition Lifecycle Management system, which contains contract data, sources said. However, they noted that DOGE personnel have not yet gained entry to databases containing personally identifiable health information of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. They also have not accessed HIGLAS, the Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System, a key accounting platform for CMS payments.
One person familiar with DOGE’s work at CMS emphasized that the current level of access is “read-only,” preventing Musk’s team from making modifications to the systems.
The intervention has raised concerns among CMS veterans and healthcare policy experts. The agency’s payment structures are notoriously complex, involving multiple layers of contractors and private insurers, especially within Medicare. Medicaid, jointly administered by federal and state governments, follows different financial pathways, with federal funding typically flowing to state agencies.

Left-leaning news outlet Politico was paid a staggering $8.2 million in ‘government subsidies’ uncovered amid Elon Musk’s DOGE dragnet on wasteful spending.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is in the process of cancelling the payments from several government agencies, including the embattled USAID.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the money given to Politico was spent on, ‘essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the taxpayer’s dime’.
‘The DOGE is working on canceling those payments now,’ she said.
‘This is a government effort to ensure that we are going line by line when it comes to the federal government’s books.’
Details of the spend emerged amid scrutiny of the public finances by Musk‘s DOGE, which has shutdown the US Agency for International Development.
Politico received $44,000 from USAID last year, but was given millions more from other federal agencies, public records showed.
Most notably the Department of Health and Human Services had $1.37 million in obligations.

These investigations have exposed shocking abuses, particularly at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
As Slay News has reported, DOGE has uncovered evidence showing that USAID has been wasting billions of dollars in taxpayer money on fraudulent foreign schemes.
Even more disturbingly, USAID has been using U.S. tax dollars against the American people by funding leftist corporate media propaganda efforts and even the bioweapons research that developed the COVID-19 virus in China.
Now it has emerged that USAID has been funneling tax dollars to the anti-American globalist efforts of Bill Gates, George Soros, and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The findings give hope that the dismantling of USAID will deliver a major blow to the globalist agenda.
Before leaving office, former President Joe Biden’s administration had requested $64.4 billion in discretionary budget authority for 2025 for State, USAID, and other international programs.
However, following recent discoveries, the Trump admin ordered the closure of USAID’s Washington D.C. headquarters on Monday.
USAID has now come under the control of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump is threatening to shut down the agency permanently.
Contrary to mainstream depictions of the agency as a provider of philanthropic assistance for soup kitchens and health clinics, USAID is a tool of deep state foreign policy.
The taxpayer-funded agency has been used to exert influence in other countries under the guise of humanitarian aid.
USAID is frequently involved in laundering taxpayer money through projects that support globalist strategic interests.
In many cases, these interests may not align with the stated goals of development or poverty alleviation.
The agency covertly supports regime change operations by funding opposition groups, NGOs, and initiatives that align with globalist political and economic objectives.
As a result, USAID has been meddling in the internal affairs of sovereign nations.
In a statement to the media earlier this week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recently condemned the “insane priorities” that USAID has funded around the world.
“I don’t know about you, but as an American taxpayer, I don’t want my dollars going towards this crap,” Leavitt said.

In 2020, USAID announced a commitment of $1.16 billion to Gavi for fiscal years 2020 to 2023.
More recently, the U.S. pledged at least $1.58 billion to Gavi over the next five years for its upcoming replenishment period.
Combined with previous funding, these contributions likely exceed $2 billion.
According to the Association of American Physicians & Surgeons (AAPS), Gates’s GAVI was one of the top recipients of USAID grants in 2024. AAPS shared a screenshot showing that USAID gave GAVI $4 billion in taxpayer money last year alone.
In 2017, the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation accused USAID of pumping tax dollars into George Soros’ organizations.
The Heritage Foundation claimed that Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) had been the primary implementer of USAID’s foreign aid since at least 2009, Sputnik reports.
However, the collaboration between Soros and USAID dates back much further. A 1993 USAID document reveals that the agency had already partnered with Soros’ Management Training Program. USAID funneled tax dollars to the organization to train 30 professionals from Bulgaria, Estonia, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia.
By the late 1990s and early 2000s, Soros’ network of NGOs played a central role in the wave of color revolutions that swept through Eastern Europe. One of the most notable instances occurred in 2003–2004. Sputnik points out that, at the time, Soros’ International Renaissance Foundation partnered with USAID to support Ukraine’s Orange Revolution.
In the years leading up to the uprising, the U.S. funneled substantial funds into the region. In 2003, USAID spent $54.7 million and another $34.11 million in 2004 on so-called “democracy programs” in Ukraine.
USAID was acting as a key conduit in the scheme.
Soros’ influence extended beyond Eastern Europe.
In April 2018, the legal watchdog Judicial Watch exposed USAID’s role in backing Soros’ globalist agenda in Guatemala. In Guatemala, OSF allegedly spent approximately $100 million on efforts to provoke unrest in Latin America between 2015 and 2018.
In October 2018, further revelations emerged when Judicial Watch obtained documents showing that USAID had collaborated with Soros to finance radical left-wing activists in Albania.
In 2016, reports indicate that USAID allocated $9 million to a campaign run by Soros’ East West Management Institute. The scale of Soros-linked funding continues to grow.
In 2024, then-President Biden requested nearly $30 billion for USAID in 2025. The move underscored the massive financial resources flowing through the agency. Many of these resources have historically intersected with Soros-backed initiatives.
Soros and Gates are not the only globalists to benefit from the anti-American USAID schemes, however.
Tax dollars have also been funneled to Klaus Schwab’s Switzerland-based World Economic Forum (WEF). According to the WEF, a future is coming in which global citizens will stripped of all freedoms, rights, and property and will “own nothing” and “be happy” about it.
Under this agenda, dubbed “The Great Reset” by WEF founder Schwab, the United States will no longer be the world’s leading superpower. Therefore, American taxpayers should be outraged that from 2013 to 2022, USAID invested approximately $26 million in multi-year agreements, according to the WEF’s website.
In January 2024, House Republicans introduced legislation called the “Defund Davos Act.” The bill sought to specifically block the State Department, USAID, and any other federal agency from funding the WEF. Unsurprisingly, the bill was blocked by Democrats.
A report from the time confirmed the U.S. “has spent millions on the WEF over the years.” Republican Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), who led the bill, said at the time:
“Forcing American Taxpayers to fund annual ski trips for insular, global elitists is absurd – not to mention reprehensible. “The World Economic Forum doesn’t deserve one cent of American funding, and it’s past time we defund Davos.”
Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI), an original cosponsor of the legislation, added:
“The wealthy WEF globalists should not receive Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars.
“The Defund Davos Act would ensure that U.S. tax dollars are not funding the World Economic Forum and their reset on our way of life.
“I thank Congressman Perry for leading this important effort.”
USAID’s shutdown isn’t just a bureaucratic reshuffle, however.
The move is a direct hit to the globalist deep state stronghold that’s funneled billions into Gates’s vaccine empire, Soros-backed regime change, and WEF’s dystopian agenda.
