A 21-year-old illegal alien from India, who was released into the United States under the Biden administration’s “alternatives to detention” policy, is now accused of causing a horrific semi-truck crash that killed three people in Southern California.
Multiple federal law enforcement sources confirmed that the suspect, Jashanpreet Singh, was highly intoxicated when he plowed his truck into slow-moving traffic.
Singh was first encountered by Border Patrol agents in the El Centro Sector in March 2022 after crossing the southern border illegally.
Instead of being detained, Singh was released into the interior of the country pending an immigration hearing under the Biden administration’s open border policies.
The process has allowed tens of thousands of illegal border crossers to remain free for years as their cases wind through immigration courts.
The Fiery Crash
Authorities say Singh was behind the wheel of a big rig on the I-10 Freeway in San Bernardino County when he slammed into slow-moving traffic at high speed.
Dashcam footage shows the semi barreling down the highway before striking multiple vehicles, sparking a massive explosion that killed at least three people and injured several others.
Police said Singh never hit the brakes before impact.
Toxicology tests later confirmed that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
He has been arrested and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to officials.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that Singh remains unlawfully present in the U.S. and that ICE has lodged an immigration detainer following his arrest.
Released Under Biden’s Open Border Policies
Federal officials warn that Singh’s case is part of a broader pattern in which migrants released under the Biden administration’s “alternatives to detention” program have gone on to commit violent crimes.
The program replaced large-scale detentions with electronic monitoring and check-ins.
It was introduced by the Biden administration in 2021 and expanded in 2022.
However, it drew sharp criticism from law enforcement and border state leaders.
Another Tragedy Involving Illegal Alien Truck Drivers
This latest incident comes just months after another illegal immigrant truck driver, Harjinder Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, was charged in a deadly crash that killed three people in Fort Pierce, Florida, in August.
Investigators found that Harjinder Singh had obtained a commercial driver’s license in California despite failing both English-language and road sign comprehension tests.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy condemned California’s lax enforcement of federal trucking standards, calling it a “fundamental safety issue.”
“I put states on notice this summer: enforce the Trump Administration’s English language requirements or the checks stop coming,” Duffy said in an October 15 statement.
“California is the only state in the nation that refuses to ensure big rig drivers can read our road signs and communicate with law enforcement.
“This is a fundamental safety issue that impacts you and your family on America’s roads.”
Trump Administration Crackdown
Following the crash, President Donald Trump’s administration announced it would withhold more than $40 million in federal highway safety funding from California for failing to comply with federal English-language proficiency standards for commercial drivers.
The move marks one of several actions by President Trump aimed at holding states accountable for policies that critics say endanger the public while encouraging illegal immigration.
As the administration restores stricter immigration and transportation safety standards rolled back under Biden, officials say the goal is simple: protect American lives before another preventable tragedy occurs.

Harrowing video captured a tractor-trailer driven by an illegal immigrant plowing into at least eight vehicles on a California freeway, killing three people.
Dashcam footage allegedly showed Jashanpreet Singh, 21, slamming into several cars while behind the wheel of the red big-rig on the westbound 10 Freeway shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to the clip first obtained by ABC7.
The red truck sped into several cars in a lane, smashing them to pieces, before slamming into the back of a white truck, the clip showed.
Singh’s vehicle, which appeared to erupt into flames, veered to the right and came to a halt after hitting another semi on the side of the road.
Three people were killed in the crash, and four others were injured and hospitalized with both minor and severe injuries, authorities said.
Singh is an illegal immigrant from India who entered the US in 2022 through the southern border and was “released” under President Joe Biden’s administration, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
He was arrested by local authorities in San Bernardino County on vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence charges before ICE issued an arrest detainer.
“It is a terrible tragedy three innocent people lost their lives due to the reckless open border policies that allowed an illegal alien to be released into the U.S. and drive an 18-wheeler on America’s highways,” Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement to The Post.
“This accident follows a disturbing trend of illegal aliens driving 18-wheelers and semi-trucks on America’s roads.”
Two of the victims of the crash have been identified as Clarence Nelson and his wife, Lisa. Clarence was a former assistant basketball coach at Pomona High, KTLA reported.
Singh is currently being held in jail without bail.

DHS Urged to Re-Vet Immigrants from ‘High-Risk Regions’ After Biden’s DHS Gave Visa to Hamas-Linked Operative
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is urging Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem to re-review visa applications from legal immigrants admitted to the United States under the Biden administration. The call for more scrutiny of legal immigrants comes after the Justice Department revealed that the Biden administration rewarded a Gaza citizen with a visa to the U.S. despite his alleged ties to Hamas’s terrorist attack on Israel in October 2023.
“I urge DHS to conduct an audit of all visas issued through high-risk countries since 2021, prioritizing potential affiliations with Hamas or other designated terrorist groups,” Cotton wrote to Noem in a letter this week:
To prevent future breaches, DHS must implement enhanced social media monitoring for visa applicants from high-risk regions and establish mandatory real-time FBI watchlist checks to ensure no terrorist slips through undetected. [Emphasis added]
Cotton’s request comes after the Department of Justice (DOJ) arrested 33-year-old Mahmoud Amin Ya’qub Al-Muhtadi, a legal immigrant from Gaza, in Lafayette, Louisiana, for his alleged involvement with the October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.
According to a criminal complaint, Al-Muhtadi is an operative with the National Resistance Brigades — the military wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The National Resistance Brigades participated in the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel.
Federal prosecutors allege that Al-Muhtadi learned of the Hamas attack that morning and subsequently armed himself along with others and crossed into Israel in the hopes of aiding in terrorism.
